Bearing Press Quality Monitoring Dashboard
The press already completes a cycle. This system shows the measurements that decide whether that cycle is acceptable, and it keeps them.
- Problem
- Operators can see that a press cycle finished, but the force, position, or other process values used to judge the bearing assembly are not presented as a clear pass or fail, and they are not retained.
- Solution
- A Windows dashboard reads the press values during the cycle, compares them with the limits set for the current model, and shows pass or fail to the operator. The same record is written to the database.
- Hardware
- The existing press PLC (Mitsubishi, Delta, or Omron, as fitted) and a shop-floor PC. Sensors already used by the press supply the measurements. New sensors are added only when the process owner asks for a value the machine does not already have.
- Software
- Custom dashboard software in C# / .NET or Python, with SQLite or SQL storage. Limits are stored per model so a model change does not require a program rewrite.
- Communication protocol
- Ethernet, serial, or Modbus between the PLC and the PC, matching the port on that press.
- Data collected
- Model identity, cycle time stamp, the press measurements used for the quality decision, the limit set that was active, and the pass/fail result. Where the sample size supports it, the screen can show Cp/Cpk from those stored measurements.
- Result
- The operator sees the current cycle against its limits, and earlier cycles remain in the database. No customer name or improvement percentage is stated here.
Press retrofits of this kind sit under industrial automation. The monitoring screen follows the same pattern as other industrial dashboards.
